Hello! Hello, my dear fellows!
Nice to meet you again in the new episode of the App Marketing − Growth Hacking Podcast. This time we’ll cover a very essential problem of naming your app. Diana Urban − a Senior Marketing Manager at Localytics (2014-2015) has shared a useful stuff on her blog. Hope, you are ready to find out how to create a working name for your app? If so, let’s start!
It goes without saying that app’s name plays a big role. Actually, app store optimization starts with the name. Your goal is to make a shot not only with the first impression, but with any impression.
So what is important to take into account while naming an app?
First of all, your app`s name should be unique. It`s better to avoid repeating names. It just takes your app away from competition, and makes people confused, as the result they may download the wrong app. Choose something standing your product out from the pack.
Then it is worth to start with your brand name. Make it easy for your fans to find you by starting with your brand or company name. At least you can include it in the first 25 characters of your app`s name to make it visible for users.
It’s also significant to include keywords in your app`s name. It`ll help you to get more downloads and to become findable for those who’ve never heard about your product before. You should do a research to choose right keywords. Firstly, make a list of apps in your niche, then determine what keywords they use in their app`s name. Next step find relevant keywords that people often search for, but other apps in your niche aren’t using. And eventually, choose three keywords you’d like to focus on.
Don’t forget that you have 255 characters to work with, but you shouldn`t use all of them for keywords. It looks spammy. So it`s better to keep your app name short. Localytics research shows that your ideal app name length will depend on your category. You should also remember that only 25 characters appear in an app store search listing page. So it`s better to frontload your most descriptive words at the beginning of your name.
And finally, there are super tools such as UsabilityHub’s Five Second Test or Pickfu that let you test your app`s name options. Use them to garner user`s reactions.
Thx for your attention. See you next time!
